Easter celebrations around the globe
Each year group explored a range of images showing the different ways Easter is celebrated around the world. The children enjoyed identifying the main features in the images and locating the places and countries on their class world map. Pupils made some thoughtful and insightful comments on what they could see, why it was happening and how it linked to the main events of Holy Week and Easter. The images helped with their understanding that Christianity is a global religion with many believers around the world.

Year Four Eco-Christingle Service at Newcastle Cathedral
Year Four enjoyed a visit to Newcastle Cathedral to participate in an Eco-Christingle service. To begin with, everyone was challenged to create their own special Eco-Christingle to represent a range of aspects. The pot reminds us of the seasons of the year and the red ribbon reminds us that Jesus died on the cross because he loves us. The soils helps us to remember the earth and all of creation and the seeds remind us of all the good things we have in life. Finally, the candle reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world who came to show us how to shine as lights in the world.
Once our Eco-Christingles were complete, some of our children delivered a blessing to everyone and read a Bible passage to all of the guests. Finally, we lit our Eco-Christingle
We were delighted when Mr Scott received an email from the Assistant Director of the Diocese of Newcastle and Durham, James Lewis, congratulating us on our exemplary manners and enthusiasm.

Mrs Gomersall visit to Year 4
Mrs Gomersall visited Year 4 to talk about the Salvation Army explaining how it began and who the founders were. She told us about why the Salvation Army is so important to her and how much she values being a part of it. Mrs Gomersall explained that the Salvation Army strives to show love to everyone and it has done this by setting up homes for the elderly, homes for people with disabilities, homes for children, hospitals and supporting when disasters occur. She explained that the Salvation Army tries to follow Christian messages in the Bible and it places great importance on helping others. Together we linked this to our RE work on the parable of the Good Samaritan where Jesus’ message is to love your neighbour. The Salvation Army helps neighbours in need in 134 countries. Mrs Gomersall wore her uniform and she brought some hats, a bonnet and some musical instruments which we enjoyed exploring. We asked Mrs Gomersall a range of thoughtful questions about her beliefs and the work of the Salvation Army and listened carefully to her replies.
