 Inter Faith Week

In November, we celebrated Inter Faith Week.

Inter Faith Week is an opportunity to celebrate religious diversity and bring people with different beliefs closer together. It is also a chance to learn about one another.

During the week, the children were set a challenge to design a new logo which could represent Inter Faith Week. All of the children worked incredibly hard and put lots of thought into their designs.

Mrs Gomersall visit to Year 4

Mrs Gomersall visited Year 4 to talk about the Salvation Army explaining how it began and who the founders were.  She told us about why the Salvation Army is so important to her and how much she values being a part of it.  Mrs Gomersall explained that the Salvation Army strives to show love to everyone and it has done this by setting up homes for the elderly, homes for people with disabilities, homes for children, hospitals and supporting when disasters occur.  She explained that the Salvation Army tries to follow Christian messages in the Bible and it places great importance on helping others.  Together we linked this to our RE work on the parable of the Good Samaritan where Jesus’ message is to love your neighbour. The Salvation Army helps neighbours in need in 134 countries.  Mrs Gomersall wore her uniform and she brought some hats, a bonnet and some musical instruments which we enjoyed exploring.  We asked Mrs Gomersall a range of thoughtful questions about her beliefs and the work of the Salvation Army and listened carefully to her replies.

Year 3 Visit to ISKCON Hindu Temple

Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic workshop at the ISKCON Newcastle Hindu Temple.  Kirtida explained all about Hinduism and answered lots of questions.  She showed some symbols and forehead decoration used during festivals and played some traditional instruments for us.  Everyone was then given the opportunity to dress up in traditional garments, participate in a drumming activity and explore the resources within the Temple.  As an opportunity for reflection and to explore worship, Kirtida demonstrated a traditional arati ceremony with incense, water, a lamp, flowers and a peacock fan.  School staff were very impressed with the respectful attitude and excellent behaviour from all pupils.

Year 4 Visit The Gurdwara

Year 4 had a wonderful trip to Newcastle recently to visit the Gurdwara to support their RE topic. On arrival, they met with Jaswinder who took them on a tour of the Gurdwara and showed them some traditional instruments. They were then treated to a performance by the resident musicians before heading into the Langar which is the community kitchen. The children were served flatbread, rice and dahl which the children thoroughly enjoyed. Staff were incredibly impressed by the children's behaviour and respectful attitude. Many thanks to North East Sikh Service for organising the visit.

Brother Khadim Visits School

This week the children in Years 1 and 2 had a special visitor. Brother Khadim came from Newcastle Central Mosque to talk about life as a Muslim.

Staff Training with Reverend Cuthbert

Staff enjoyed their termly visit to All Saints Church to take part in some training lead by Reverend Vernon. He cleverly tackled the tricky concept of the Holy Trinity through the use of an apple and peeler.
